Championship In a thrilling finale, the Delhi Capitals Women clinched their second Women's Premier League (WPL) title in 2025, thanks to stellar performances from Annabel Sutherland and the inspirational leadership of Meg Lanning. The dynamic duo played pivotal roles in guiding the team to victory, showcasing their skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
The game was won by the Delhi Capitals Women by seven wickets.
After winning the toss, the Delhi Capitals chose to field first, and UP Warriorz opener Kiran Navgire gave them a solid start with a brilliant 51 off just 27 balls. However, DC Women could limit the opposition to 166/7 in 20 overs with strong bowling from Annabel Sutherland (2/26) and Jess Jonassen (1/21). Although UPW had a late surge thanks to Chinelle Henry's scorching 33* from 15 balls, the Capitals could still complete the mark.
Captain Meg Lanning's brilliant play helped the Delhi Capitals respond by getting out to a fast start. She kept the scoreboard moving by anchoring the chase with a 69 off 49 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues left cheaply for a duck, and Shefali Verma (26 off 16) gave a fast start before losing to Deepti Sharma.
All-rounders Sutherland (41* off 35) and Marizanne Kapp (29* off 17) assumed responsibility with 48 runs remaining, leading their team home in the penultimate ball of the innings. With an outstanding run rate of 8.42, they sealed the victory and made sure there were no more issues.
Before the WPL action moves to Bengaluru, the Delhi Capitals have a good finish with the win. The Delhi Capitals, who are now in second place on the points standings after two victories, will try to maintain their momentum.
