WPL 2025: G Kamalini Makes His WPL Debut As The League's Youngest Player

G Kamalini Makes His WPL Debut As The League's Youngest Player

The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 witnessed a historic moment as 15-year-old prodigy G Kamalini made her debut, becoming the youngest player to ever feature in the league. The young all-rounder, hailing from a small town in India, has already garnered attention for her exceptional talent and composure on the field.

Kamalini's inclusion in the squad came after a stellar performance in domestic tournaments, where she showcased her ability to contribute with both bat and ball. Her fearless approach and maturity beyond her years have drawn comparisons to some of the game's greats.

In her debut match, Kamalini impressed with a quickfire 25 runs off just 15 balls, followed by a disciplined bowling spell that earned her two crucial wickets. Her performance not only helped her team secure a victory but also announced her arrival on the big stage.

Cricket experts and fans alike have praised her potential, with many predicting a bright future for the young star. As the WPL 2025 season progresses, all eyes will be on Kamalini to see how she continues to rise to the occasion and inspire the next generation of cricketers.

This milestone is a testament to the growing opportunities for young talent in women's cricket and highlights the league's commitment to nurturing future stars.

There are many young, talented players competing among the top women's international cricket players in the WPL 2025. This also includes players who were purchased by the teams following their outstanding U-19 achievements, which were sufficient to purchase them in this tournament's auction.

One of the venues where spectators witnessed several young players do exceptionally well was the U19 Women's T20 World Cup. G Kamalini, who played for the Mumbai Indians Women versus the Gujarat Giants Women at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday, was one of the India Women U19 players to appear. Even though Kamalini only received one delivery during the chase, she made it matter by announcing herself with a short, wide delivery from Priya Mishra. The Mumbai Indians Women had won the match.

At the tender age of 16 years and 213 days, she made history by becoming the youngest player to ever make a WPL debut.  Kamalini's former colleague Shabnim Shakil, who made his Gujarat Giants debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women previous season at the age of 16 years and 263 days, was the first player to hold this record.

In addition to Kamalini, VJ Joshitha, a member of the U19 T20 World Cup winning squad from the previous year, made her RCB Women debut this season.  At 18 years and 203 days, the right-arm pacer made history as the youngest bowler to play for RCB Women in the WPL.

With 143 runs in seven games at an average of 35.75 and a strike rate of 104.37, Kamalini finished as the second-highest run scorer for India and the third-highest run scorer overall in the most recent T20 U19 Women's World Cup in 2024.
